Financial Literacy Scholarship
Since 2010, eight area high schools (Central Decatur, Clarke, Interstate‐35, Lamoni, Mormon Trail, Murray, Wayne, and Winterset) have implemented the Iowa Financial Literacy Program. American State Bank has partnered with the school districts to bring this interactive, web‐based financial management program at no cost to the schools or taxpayers. EverFi’s web‐based format covers hundreds of financial topics such as savings, banking, investing, stock markets, credit scores, consumer fraud and more. The program engages and interacts with students while placing them in real‐world scenarios.
For each school district, the instructor who teaches the financial literacy class selects the recipient of the scholarship. A bank representative presents the scholarship to the selected student at the school’s award ceremony in the spring. American State Bank currently awards six $1,000.00 scholarships to students in our communities each year. In August, American State Bank issues the funds to the college of the student’s choice to apply to their first semester expenses.
For consideration of the EverFi Financial Literacy Scholarship, you must be a high school senior enrolled in the financial literacy course at one of the following high schools: Central Decatur, Clarke, Interstate‐35, Lamoni, Murray, or Winterset.
