We Have You Covered
Being prepared for the unexpected is always a good idea. Whether it’s an unexpected expense that causes you to overdraw your checking account, or you’ve lost your debit card, it’s important for you to have the tools to maintain control of your finances. If you’d like to learn more or enroll in our overdraft protection or debit card programs, call or stop by one of our locations.
Overdraft Reserve Protection Program
Our Overdraft Reserve service is a purely discretionary privilege that we may provide to you from time to time and which may be withdrawn or withheld by us at any time without prior notice or reason or cause. Our normal fee for returned items or overdraft (OD) items is currently $32.27 per item and/or presentment, as set forth in our fee schedule, and will be charged for each transaction initiated for payment from your checking account that does not have sufficient funds. Transactions that may cause or create overdrafts include checks; in-person (teller) withdrawal; ACH debit transactions (automatic payaments) or automatic loan payments. Additionally, if you sign the opt-in authorization, you may be able to access your overdraft checking limit through an ATM or debit card purchase. You will be required to bring your checking account into a positive balance within 15 calendar days of your overdraft. Should you write checks that put you over your overdraft reserve limit, American State Bank may, at our discretion, return the check(s) to the payee(s). We may refuse to pay an overdraft for you at any time, even though your account is in good standing and even though we may have previously paid overdrafts for you.
If you have a savings account with American State Bank, you can set up an automatic funds transfer to your checking account when it has a negative balance.
Additional Debit Card Programs
Premium Text Notifications
Anytime American State Bank’s fraud department flags a debit card transaction as suspicious, cardholders will receive a text asking them to verify the transaction as authorized or not authorized. If the transaction is authorized, by replying yes the transaction should be allowed to complete. If the transaction is unauthorized, by replying no, the card will immediately be closed stopping any future unauthorized transactions. All American State Bank cardholders are automatically enrolled in Premium Texting if they have texting capability on their phone. Please be sure we have your current cell phone number on file so you can take full advantage of this service.*
*American State Bank does not charge for this service. However, message and data rates, which are typically charges assessed by your data provider, may apply.
